Wanting to be Understood?

In 2017, there were over 1 million Chinese undergrad and graduate students in the United States. Often times, foreign students have a difficult time assimilating into American culture. This is due to a number of reasons:

  • You do not feel that your English is strong enough to interact with Native English Speakers.
  • You do not know enough about American culture to make meaningful connections with Americans.
  • In China, you were taught to learn English from reading textbooks + taking exams.
  • Americans are not actively reaching out and befriending you
As a result, you spend most of your time hanging out with other foreign students that speak your native language, rather than striving to assimilate with American society.
